I’m experienced in over 15 languages, with a broad focus across backend, web, iOS/macOS, and embedded hardware. I’m an experienced engineering leader with a strong product background, and deeply enjoy empowering my colleagues through peer to peer learning and servant leadership.

Hardware Prototyping

I specialise in creating bespoke hardware prototypes, with skills across CAD and Electrical Engineering, and a lab equipped with state of the art Additive and Subtractive manufacturing tooling.

Infrastructure Architecture

I’m experienced in large-scale infrastructure architecture across both cloud and bare-metal environments, with a focus on planet-scale serverless architecture and low-level networking including AS/BGP and bespoke Terraform providers.

Security & Reverse Engineering

I have a broad focus on physical and digital security, especially around the intersection of security and GRC. I regularly conduct independent security research, and frequently guest lecture on reverse engineering and blackbox analysis.

Developer Relations

I’m an experienced Developer Relations advocate, and have evangelised sponsored technical products such as Google Cloud, Twilio and GitHub at over 50+ events across the US, Europe, and Online.

Consulting and Due Diligence

I regularly consult with organizations of various sizes on topics related to engineering culture, infrastructure rearchitecture, and security and compliance frameworks (ISO27001/SOC 2).

I am also experienced in conducting technical due diligence for both M&A and Venture Capital firms.

Jon is an experienced engineering leader, with a wealth of knowledge across multiple different domains of expertise.

Jon is an experienced engineering leader, with a diverse range of expertise across multiple domains. His journey began at MirrorWeb, where he served as the VP of Engineering. During his tenure, he oversaw all technical efforts and played a crucial role in scaling infrastructure to handle billions of requests per minute. His innovative data ingest and processing solutions were recognized as best-in-class at AWS ReInvent.

Subsequently, Jon transitioned to Orbit as a Lead for Security and Compliance. Here, he successfully designed and implemented SOC 2 Type 1 compliance standards within six months, focusing on device management, IT security programs, and SSO integration, making him a key advisor to product management and executives, and working alongside account executives to close over $1m of ARR.

In his most recent role at Balena as the Lead for Security and Compliance, Jon implemented critical processes with an emphasis on ISO27001/ISO27701 and GDPR compliance, securing contracts worth over $5 million. His collaborative efforts with the Customer Success team resulted in successful collaborations with multinational payment networks and FTSE 500 companies.

Outside of his full time roles, Jon regularly conducts freelance security research and reverse engineering work, and is frequently invited to speak at conferences on various topics related to security, infrastructure, and engineering culture.
